5:04 am
pushed back an hour because nasa was worried about the fog. meteorologist rob mayeda is in the weather center tracking that potential fog. what is the flyover forecast? >> well, we're watching the visibility miles very closely. one of the things we'll see as we approach sunrise, it will drop off. right now at napa it's down to two and a half miles. what happens is the air cools approaching sunrise, gets close to the dew point, you get condensation and that makes fog form. so our futurecast, maybe nasa looking at this rpm model as well. you can see the fog right around san francisco and over hartowar hayward. as they move back the flight time, we'll get clearing as the sun comes up, the low clouds should break up so overall viewing should be pretty good as we go through the morning. some chilly temperatures out around bait area this morning. well, the bay area was included as part of "endeavour's" final flight because of the deep connections between the shuttle program and nasa ames in mountain view.

>> bob redell joins us live where thousands will fwagather t to get a glimpse of the shuttle. >> reporter: good morning to you. moffett field here is going to be one of the best places to see the shuttle "endeavour" not only because the weather is supposed to be good as far as viewing goes but this is one of the places where it's expected to do a low flyover at 1500 feet above the flight deck. the gates open to the public here at 6:00. they are expecting 8,000 to 10,000 people to show up. you cannot park unless you have a parking permit so nasa ames is urging you take public transit instead. if you can't make it here there's plenty of other areas where you can see the space shuttle piggybacking on the 747. the arrival has been delayed an hour to give the fog a chance to burn off, but generally speaking they are expecting the shuttle to appear over the east bay around 9:30 this morning.
5:06 am
it will be flying over walnut creek. they do want to fly over the major science center museums here in the bay area. up in oakland, they have a viewing party, in berkeley, then across the bay, the golden gate bridge. we understand they'll probably get a low buzz-cut flyovers at 1500 feet. the bay area discovery museum in sausalito will get a flyover. so will the exploratoryum. this will be a tribute to the men and women here at nasa ames who helped launch the program. they perfected the heat shield tiles and performed early wind tunnel tests. this is also where astronauts came to train in the shuttle simulator. some of those very astronauts, including steve robinson who flu
